So today I am reviewing The Overtones, 5 handsome men (from l-r Darren, Mike, Timmy, Lachie and Mark) with 5 beautiful voices! I went to see this group for the 3rd time on Saturday 17 December at Indigo O2. Now, if you haven’t heard of this group, then you are sorely missing out.
They do good old classic Doo Wop, think of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, the Drifters etc. The music from a bygone era that generations for years to come can still enjoy. They also take on modern singers and put the Doo Wop spin on it – Adele and Rihanna being two of the artists they have done this with.
As this was my third time seeing them, I knew what to expect in terms of a great atmosphere and great songs. Unfortunately, Timmy was unable to tour with the boys this year as he is battling Cancer (We love you Timmy! Get well soon xx), but they had a recording of Timmy whilst on tour and so it was like having him there with us (at which point my mum and I balled our eyes out!) They still managed to put on a wonderful, entertaining show and Timmy had a hand in putting some of it together.
I love the sound of their music, and together they have such a laugh, putting on a show for them isn’t about making money. You can tell that they enjoy what they do and have a genuine love for the music they sing. They also write some of their own tracks, my favourite being Gambling Man (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oo8OgMzS3uU), which is very catchy and very upbeat!
The difference with their Christmas tour, is that they change the classic Christmas songs we all know, take them back in time, give them a reboot and it bloody works!
These guys are amazing at what they do, no lip syncing in sight, no gimmicky stage sets, it is just 5 guys who know how to sing without anything else needed!
So go give them a listen and let me know what you think!
